The body of missing Mackinac boater Jon P. Santarelli, 53, was found Saturday, officials confirmed.

The remains were identified as Santarelli, of the 2600 block of North Hampden Court in the Lincoln Park area, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

His body was found about 12:10 p.m. in Lake Michigan, said Officer Patrick McGinnis, a police spokesman, earlier Saturday.

His remains were found about 6 miles offshore, the medical examiner’s office said.

One week ago, Santarelli fell overboard as he was competing in the Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac. He was last seen after he lost his balance and fell into the water about 4 miles east of Navy Pier, prompting a multi-agency rescue mission involving the Coast Guard as well as Chicago police and fire crews.
