An inbound Metra Electric train struck a pedestrian Thursday morning at the Hazel Crest station, a Metra spokesman said.

Train No. 708, which originates in University Park at 7:45 a.m. on its way to Millennium Station, hit the woman, who was on the platform, just after 8 a.m., a spokesman Tom Miller said.

Metra spokeswoman Sylvia Cooper said it wasn’t clear exactly how the woman was struck while on the platform, but that the impact injured her foot and she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The train had been heading to its next stop at 59th Street in Chicago when the woman’s foot was struck, and had not scheduled to stop at the Hazel Crest station.

Cooper said the incident delayed both inbound and outbound trains by about an hour Thursday morning.
