Prospect Avenue in downtown Clarendon Hills will be closed to vehicle traffic at times during a resurfacing project schedule to begin the second week of August and be completed by Labor Day.
Mike Millette, director of public works, said full closures of Prospect would occur at times during daytime work hours only.
“It’s a fairly run-of-the-mill project,” Millette said.
The most recent resurfacing of this part of Prospect Avenue was done more than 10 years ago and that a water main was replaced there in 2012, leaving a large patch, he said.
The resurfacing project was discussed by the Village Board a couple of months ago and was to include Prospect Avenue, between Ann Street and Park Avenue.
However, after $200,000 was budgeted for the work and the low bid came in from Chicagoland Paving Contractors Inc. of Lake Zurich for $149,900, the board approved spending up to $25,000 more to repave Prospect, an additional 140 feet south of Park, where new condominiums have been under construction.

“Extending an additional 140 feet will match the frontage of the 88 Park project,” Millette said.
The project was scheduled to start in August to avoid conflict with the village’s Dancin’ in the Street weekly Wednesday night concerts.
Clarendon Hills worked on its road program in 2015 with Chicagoland Paving. That company’s low bid for the 2018 Prospect Avenue work was considerably less than the $215,846 high bid of the four received.
Along with the resurfacing work, the village has designated $50,000 for electrical upgrade in the Sloan Triangle, along Prospect, just north of Park.
Millette said the village will solicit proposals for the electrical work this month and the work will be completed by September.
