“A Christmas Story,” a classic holiday movie, will provide the theme for this season’s ICE, the elaborate ice-sculpture attraction at Gaylord Palms.
About a dozen scenes from the coming-of-age film will be presented, such as ones with Aunt Clara’s pink nightmare and the Old Man’s Major Award. The ICE attraction make for a natural connection with the tongue on the flagpole scene. There are plans for about a dozen “Christmas Story” scenes plus two-story-high ice slides and the Frostbite Factory ice-carving station.
“We’re thrilled to see this Christmas classic brought to life inside ICE! for the first time ever,” said Johann Krieger, Gaylord Palms’ general manager.
The traditional Nativity scenes, created with crystal clear ice, will be the final display, separate from the “A Christmas Story” figures.
New to the Gaylord Palms at Christmas celebration will be The Elf on the Shelf character breakfast and a revamped light show called “Dreams of Christmas,” which will take place nightly near the hotel’s six-story tree.
Returning for another year are “Cirque Dreams Unwrapped,” an acrobatic stage show; Christmas Tree Trail; the Reindeer Express Post Office; Gingerbread Decorating Corner in the Alpine Village Sweet Shop; a station dedicated to Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Traditions; Santa’s Snow Throw and snow tubing.
The Kissimmee hotel’s festivities will run daily between November 16 and January 6. For more details, go to GaylordPalms.com. Check out renderings of the display here.
