A 31-year-old man has been charged with shooting at police officers who pulled over a car he was riding in Friday night in South Chicago. At least one officer shot back, but no one was hit, police said.

Randale Truitt, 31, of the 200 block of East 70th Street in the South Side’s Park Manor neighborhood, is charged with two felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and was served three warrants, police said in a news release Sunday morning.

Truitt was scheduled to appear Sunday in Central Bond Court at 26th Street and California Avenue.

Truitt was arrested about 10 p.m. Friday after officers identified him as the man who allegedly shot toward them while running from the traffic stop, police said.

Tactical officers from the 4th District were trying to stop the car for an undisclosed reason about 9:35 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Essex Avenue when the man got out of the back seat and started running, police said.

They chased him, and after a short distance he turned and shot toward the officers, said Sgt. Al Stinites, a police spokesman who responded to the scene. One of the officers fired back, police said.

More police responded and found the man nearby, police said. Police also said they found a gun after searching the area.
