A man charged in connection with a shooting at a Fourth of July party in a Detroit suburb that left one person dead and another wounded was arrested in south suburban Harvey over the weekend.

The U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Taskforce arrested Perry Bernard Rouse Jr., 25, without incident at a Motel 6 in Harvey on Saturday on warrants for murder, assault with intent to murder and multiple weapons charges, according to a news release from the Macomb County (Mich.) Sheriff’s Department.

About 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Macomb County Sheriff’s officers responded to a call of shots fired at what had been a block party in the Detroit suburb of Mount Clemens, according to the news release. The officers did not locate any victims, but then got a call from a local hospital reporting that staff had received two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Charlie McGowan, 24, of Clinton Township, Mich., was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the stomach area, and a 26-year-old woman from Clinton Township who was an acquaintance of McGowan was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, the release stated.

Investigators believe McGowan was shot while standing in the street, and that the woman was struck while sitting in a car. Officers recovered 17 shell casings linked to three different caliber firearms, as well as a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting.

Rouse Jr. was one of three people of interest being sought in connection with the shooting, and investigators believe one of them had a history with McGowan. Authorities were not releasing the names of the other two individuals.

Rouse Jr. is being held at the Cook County Jail. It is unclear when he will be transferred to Macomb County.
