Jacob Mazur of Elmwood Park recently graduated from Fenwick High School. Mazur was the class valedictorian.
Q: Where did you go to elementary school?
A: I grew up in Elmwood Park and attended Elmwood Park public schools. I graduated eighth grade from Elm Middle School.

Q: What activities were you involved in at Fenwick?
A: I was on the mathematics team that won the Archdiocese of Chicago Championship. I was the captain of the team my senior year. I was in the Blackfriars Guild stage, which is our theater group. I was the sound manager. I was a member of Fenwick TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) and WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering.) I was also an Eagle Scout.
Q: How long have you been an Eagle Scout?
A: I joined scouts when I was in third grade. I went through the whole program. I just finished my Eagle Scout rank project in November.
Q: How did it make you feel knowing you were valedictorian?
A: There were about 300 students in my graduating class. It was a great culminating experience for my time at Fenwick.
Q: What did you like the most about attending Fenwick?
A: I liked the community and how close we became.
Q: Where will you be attending college?
A: I am going to the University of Notre Dame.
Q: What drew you to Notre Dame?
A: I felt like Notre Dame had a similar atmosphere as Fenwick. It has a tight community. I was able to receive a big scholarship from Notre Dame, as well.
Q: What will be your major?
A: I am going to be studying electrical engineering.
Q: How do you feel about going away to college?
A: I’m more excited than nervous.
Q: What is your ultimate goal?
A: Engineering is a way to open up a lot of doors. I want to see what fits my interests the most.
Q: What are your plans for the summer?
A: I’m going to be working at Fenwick, and I’m going on vacation with my family. I also want to keep in touch with my friends before they go away to college.
