A new sci-fi comedy directed by a Chicago native is getting national hype — and you can catch a screening with its creator this week.

On July 5 at AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois St.), catch “Sorry to Bother You” followed by a Q&A with writer-director and Chicagoan Boots Riley.

“Sorry to Bother You” stars Lakeith Stanfield (of “Get Out,” “Atlanta” and Twitter fame) as a telemarketer who gets a boost in his career after adopting a white voice for work (done by David Cross). Tessa Thompson, Terry Crews, Armie Hammer, Steven Yeun and more make up the star-studded cast.

It’s the first feature length film by Riley, who is also the lead vocalist of the Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club.

Tickets for the 9:30 p.m. screening are $12.19
