Some things just go together naturally. Then there’s the marriage between Chicago-style hot dogs and Chicago-style pizza.
It’s a match made in heartburn heaven, and it’s back at Wrigley Field for a limited time. Hot Doug’s and Giordano’s are teaming up to create the Hot Doug’s FireDog Pizza, which will be available for one Cubs homestand only, starting with Tuesday’s game against the Tigers and ending with Sunday’s game against the Reds.
This mashup of spicy hot dogs and deep-dish pizza will be sold at the Giordano’s stand on the third-base side near Aisle 103. Imagine a pizza with hot dogs, pepper jack cheese and caramelized onions baked inside, then topped with more onions, the crispy kind. Load up on napkins and hold my beer.
The FireDog Pizza is a follow-up offering to a similar Franken-snack that had a brief run at Wrigley in 2016. Apparently that sold-out debut was so successful that intrepid chowhounds – and producers of antacid tablets – demanded an encore.
Demand for this gut-buster figures to be intense, and quantities are limited. It’s first-come, first-served, but if you miss out, never fear. The FireDog Pizza – including a thin-crust version for lightweights and people who aren’t from around here – will be sold at all Giordano’s locations starting Monday.
