The addition of the 11-acre Toy Story Land is the biggest expansion in the history of Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. But a peak over Andy’s oversize fence show bigger things on the horizon. Three words: Star Wars land.

Actually, Walt Disney World officials would tell you, its official given name is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This 14-acre area is scheduled to open in the late fall of 2019. It will feature a couple of rides — one where visitors will take the controls of the Millennium Falcon — and eating experiences. And folks can expect a high level of immersion techniques that will make them feel like they walking around Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, far, far away.

Also in the works, adjacent to Galaxy’s Edge, will be a “Star Wars”-themed hotel, where every room will have a starry view.

Other changes coming to Hollywood Studios include the revamping of the Great Movie Ride, which will be known as Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway when it opens next year. It’s touted as the first Disney ride that revolves around Mickey Mouse.

The park will also be one of the stops on the Disney Skyliner, a gondola-based transportation system that will connect Hollywood Studios and Epcot with four Disney World resort, including Art of Animation, Pop Century,Caribbean Beach and the upcoming Disney Riviera Resort, part of the Disney Vacation Club. Steel columns for the Skyliner are already in place in the Hollywood Studios parking lot, and they are aligned with a hub that’s under construction.

On a smaller scale, the park is updating its stage show geared to the younger set. Coming this fall is “Disney Junior Dance Party.” It will feature characters from TV shows such as “Mickey and the Roadster Racers,” “Doc McStuffins,” “The Lion Guard” and “Vampirina.”
