With two Oscars, two Emmys, and a Tony under her belt, it’s high time someone gave Glenda Jackson, 82, a crown. On Thursday, it was announced that the actress will return to Broadway in 2019 in the title role in Shakepeare’s “King Lear.”
Jackson, who most recently appeared on Broadway’s critically-acclaimed “Three Tall Women,” began her career as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. After a slew of lauded film and stage performances — followed by 23 years in Parliament — she returned to acting in 2016, playing Lear at The Old Vic. In this role, she received an Olivier nomination, the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress, and a Critics Circle Award for Best Shakespearean Performance.
The production will begin previews Wednesday, March 6, 2019, and will open Thursday, April 11, 2019. Location, creative team and additional casting for “King Lear” will be announced in coming weeks.
