Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Simon Korazija, 25, of Chicago sat on a bench with a book earlier this year in Scoville Park in Oak Park. Korazija, who’s from Slovenia and noted American culture is much different from Europe, answered a few questions for the Oak Leaves.

Q: What brings you out here today?

A: I actually just wanted to get out of the city. I found this random park; it seems nice. Especially on a day like this.

Q: I notice your accent. Where are you from originally?

A: Slovenia. I came here to work two and a half years ago. I don’t know how long I’m staying. I’m an engineer/designer. I do a little bit of both.

Q: What book are you reading?

A: “Design for the Real World,” by Victor Papanek.

Q: What about design interests you?

A: That’s a good question. I guess it’s, like, making a positive influence on the world. Trying to use your powers for good. It’s a nice feeling when you think you’re doing something good.

Q: Favorite activity?

A: Soccer or basketball. I like sports, or I like this also, sitting and enjoying the sunshine.

Q: Area restaurant you like best?

A: That’s actually really hard. I like all the different cuisines from around the world. I like South American food. There’s not a lot in Europe, so it’s a little better here.

Q: Travel destination you’re looking forward to visiting?

A: I’m going to Iceland soon. I also want to see South America and Central America, and also the U.S. in general. I often spend vacation time seeing family.
