Sand bags have been filled in Montgomery and the Community Development team along with public works officials delivered them to South Moon Barbecue, a restaurant that is usually the first to experience flooding in the village.

Maggie Federman, a manager at South Moon Barbecue, said any time torrential rains fall or a flash flood warning is issued they have problems.

“We have a tremendous team and patrons that help us,” she said as a resident and two staff members worked to drain water out of the lower level bar area.

The Fox River reached some 13.79 feet Friday, still in the “minor flooding” classification given by Montgomery public works officials.

To reach into the “moderate” flooding stage would call for the water to rise to 14 feet and at 15 feet it would be classified as major.

Mark Wolf, streets supervisor in the village said his department stands ready to assist neighbors with sandbags. He cautions that the department does not fill the sandbags; that is up to the resident.

Wolf is hopeful the river level would decrease before more rain is scheduled to hit after the weekend.

“Water is unstoppable. You can take precautions but it changes hourly. We are 100 percent willing to do what we can,” he said.

Jerry Steffey was fishing along the Fox River Friday just as he’s done for 40 some years. “This is the third highest I have seen the water,” he said as he cast his line into the river.
