Mount Prospect police are asking the public to be extra vigilant after a man tried to lure a 16-year-old girl into his car late last week.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, the teen was walking in the 300 block of North William Street when a man driving a gray four-door sedan pulled into the driveway in front of her, rolled down his window and told her to get in the car, according to a news release from the Mount Prospect Police Department.

The teen had seen the vehicle circling the area a number of times prior to pulling into the driveway, and she ignored the driver and continued on to her destination. Once there, she told an adult, who called 911. Officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Police described the vehicle as possibly an Audi or Infiniti sedan with large, shiny four- or five-spoke wheels, dark-tinted windows, a black grille and loud exhaust system. The driver was described as a white man in his 20s with a darker complexion, thin build, very short hair and short facial hair, and with a long and bent nose, according to the news release.

Police asked anyone who sees a man or a vehicle fitting the description to call police, and urged parents to review safety rules about interacting with strangers with their children.
