A longtime business in downtown Clarendon Hills is getting a facelift.
Russ Zabler, who also is a resident of the village, has owned and operated Zabler Design Jewelers for about 33 years at 26 S. Prospect Ave.
He remodeled the interior of his store about 18 years ago and now plans to give his storefront a new facade for the first time.
“It’s been an idea for a while,” Zabler said Monday. “I like the classic look of limestone, and it’s been a superior building material for over 100 years. It has a level of sophistication and stability.”
The new facade will display the full name of the business — Zabler Design Jewelers. The existing facade has the business’s original name — Zabler Jewelers, which was changed about 20 years ago.
“Stores in some downtowns have more of a presence, and I want this to look like it’s two stories, with more of a feeling of stability and importance.
Dan Ungerleider, Clarendon Hills’ community development director, said he is pleased with Zabler’s initiative to upgrade the outside of his storefront.
“I’m encouraged that he is investing in his business,” Ungerleider said. “The village always is interested in making its downtown look better.”
Zabler said he hopes to have his new facade in place by the end of the year.

“That’s been the plan, but I’m away up north a lot during the summer,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes.”
