Raymond Puterbaugh, 48, of Silver Lake pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence, a felony. Another charge was dismissed, Assistant State’s Attorney Randi Freese said.
Authorities said that on Jan. 29, Spring Grove police stopped Puterbaugh after they saw his vehicle speeding and weaving in traffic. After the stop, an officer noticed Puterbaugh was showing signs of impairment. Puterbaugh refused to take roadside field sobriety tests or submit to a Breathalyzer, the officer said.
McHenry County authorities said he has nine prior convictions for driving under the influence in four different states. This is his first time being sent to prison. He also has a prior conviction for driving on a revoked license.
According to the indictment filed in McHenry County, Puterbaugh was convicted of DUIs in 1991 in Cook County, 2000 and 2001 in Ohio, twice in 2005 in Wisconsin, 2006 in Lake County, 2009 and 2012 in Nevada, and 2013 in Ohio.
His conviction for driving on a revoked license was in 2006 in Lake County, according to the indictment.
A call to his defense attorney, Assistant Public Defender Angelo Mourelatos, was not immediately returned.
