Blue Man Group again will play host to a drum-off competition in downtown Orlando on May 11 and May 12.

The famed blue-skinned performers currently are accepting video applications for drummers in action via YouTube or Vimeo (use the hashtag #BlueManDrumOff and #Contest. Submissions). They are due by April 30, should be submitted at blueman.com/orlandodrumoff.

A selection panel made up of Blue Man Group musicians and performers will select up to 20 drummers to perform live on May 11. Then five finalists chosen from that group will perform 90-second sets at the Wall Street Plaza Main Stage on May 12, the closing night of Florida Music Festival.

The winner, chosen May 12, gets a complete drum set from DW Drums, Sabian rock performance cymbals, Vic Firth sticks and gift pack, VIP tickets to Blue Man Group at Universal Orlando. The prizes are worth more than $5,000.

“The level of showmanship and creativity is incredibly inspiring and these drummers exhibit one of the best parts of being a musician: the exuberance and thrill of performing in front of a big crowd,” said Kevin Connolly, a 17-year veteran of Blue Man Group. “We celebrate the opportunity to bring this energy to the Orlando audience while rewarding those who put on an exhilarating solo performance.”

Blue Man Group has performed in a 1,000-seat theater at Universal CityWalk since 2006. The organization has permanent productions in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas and Berlin in addition to a world tour.

No purchase is necessary for the Orlando Drum-off. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
