National “Insert-Food-Here” Days may be arbitrary and silly, but these so-called holidays are certainly good for one thing: getting free food.

That brings us to good news: National Pretzel Day is Thursday, and you can get a free pretzel to celebrate. There are two local spots offering free twists to commemorate the occasion, one in the city and one in the suburbs.

First, Bohemian House wants you to stop by after work for a free 3-ounce mini-bavarian pretzel from 5 p.m. to close. The pretzel comes with house-made mustard but beer, sadly, is extra.

And, if that’s not convenient, Ben’s Soft Pretzels — which has locations in Flossmoor, Homer Glen and Lombard — will also offer a deal for the day. Donate $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and you will receive a free jumbo soft pretzel Thursday. That’s pretty close to free! Once again, dipping sauce will cost you extra.

Don’t get it twisted, pretzel lovers. Grab yourself those sweet, salty carbs for free Thursday.
