Jerry and Mary Jane Rees established Rees Funeral Home in 1960, expanding in 1985 to include the newly purchased Olson Funeral Home in Portage.

Jerry and Mary Jane were very active in the communities until their retirement in 1990. At that time, longtime employee Jim Krause and Patricia Rees, Jerry and Mary Jane’s daughter, purchased the funeral homes and acquired Brady Funeral Home in Lake Station in 1993.

In 2005, Jim and Patty bought the property formerly known as Eli’s Steak House at 10909 Randolph. The property after being fully renovated began serving the community in August of that year. Jim’s son, Josh, his daughter Julie, and daughter-in-law, Tory Krause, remain dedicated to providing the communities with the service-orientated tradition of a family-owned and operated business.

Rees understands that most of us make funeral arrangements once or twice in a lifetime and the procedure is normally unfamiliar and disquieting. The dedicated staff at Rees derives great satisfaction in providing excellent service to the families during and after the funeral.

Funeral preplanning has been offered through Rees since 1983 and is a way that families can receive a Rees Guaranteed Funeral Price by establishing an Irrevocable Funeral Trust, which is both tax and Medicaid exempted and fully transferable should families decide to relocate.

Whether a family’s choice is burial or cremation, their commitment is the same, compassionate service at every level. The Krause family and staff are firm in their continuing commitment to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of each family they serve.
