Witnesses were able to get a man out of a burning vehicle which had veered off a road in Aurora, police said.

According to police, Anselmo Baca-Vazquez, 34, of Warren, was charged with drunken driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no insurance, improper lane usage and no lights when required after he was involved in the incident at 12:12 a.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of East New York Street.

According to police, Baca was traveling without his headlights on when a witness noticed his vehicle veer off the roadway. The witness heard a loud boom and saw Baca’s vehicle engulfed in flames, according to police.

Witnesses were able to get Baca out of the burning vehicle and to safety before officers arrived, police said.

Baca was taken to an area hospital with severe burns and was later transported to another suburban Chicago hospital for further treatment.
