A 24-year-old man has died after falling from a high-rise building in the Loop Saturday evening.

It happened about 6:10 p.m. in the 200 block of North Dearborn Street, according to police.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was dead on the scene, according to police and a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

As of about 7:15 p.m., several passers-by stopped to see what was happening as a few Chicago police officers stood nearby.

The body, beneath a white cloth in front of a 7-Eleven at the corner of Dearborn and Lake streets, was cordoned off with yellow and red tape.

Pedestrians and cyclists were diverted away but motorists were able to get by, one way, on Dearborn, toward Wacker Drive.

Cynthia Villarreal had been working at her retail job in the Loop since early Saturday morning and wanted a drink or snack from the 7-Eleven for her train ride home to the Southwest Side.

The scene at the intersection, however, kept her from getting to the store.

“I hope it doesn’t have to anything to do with St. Patrick’s Day,” she said. “Either way it’s tragic.”

Area Central detectives are investigating.
