For Chicago actor Joe Minoso, a short film he starred in seven years ago has new relevance.
“Alonso, The Dream and The Call,” follows an immigrant who works as a construction laborer to support his family and cannot receive treatment when he falls ill.
Best known for playing Joe Cruz on “Chicago Fire,” Minoso stars as the title character in the short film, which was released Thursday on Amazon Prime, and “shows how easily someone can be completely devastated by a health issue in this country.”
Even though the film was made some time ago, Minoso said Chicago director Ben-Hur Uribe decided to release it now. “He thought that all of a sudden it felt like the right time.”
Second City alum Tim Kazurinsky also has a cameo in the movie.
Minoso says he hopes the film, which is just over 12 minutes long, will “open up some eyes and start a conversation” about “very basic rights and opportunities for any human being.”
