A car struck and killed a 3-year-old boy while he was riding his tricycle earlier this week in Joliet, the Will County Coroner’s Office reported Friday.
Mateo Alvarez was riding his tricycle on the 600 block of Landau Avenue when he was hit by the vehicle, the coroner’s office said.
He was rushed to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox , where he was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday, according to the coroner.
An autopsy performed Thursday showed Mateo died from multiple injuries related to the accident, officials said.
Joliet police did not immediately return calls seeking more information.

Memorial services for the child are pending.
