Philadelphia Union have signed Czech midfielder Bořek Dočkal from Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye, the club announced Wednesday.
Dočkal, 29, arrives on a season-long loan, and will occupy the Designated Player spor previously occupied by David Accam.
The club also announced Accam’s salary has been bought down using discretionary Targeted Allocation Money, free up the Designated Player spot used to sign Dočkal.
“When we set out to identify targets for our number 10 position that would be a good fit within our system and parameters, Borek stood out as a leading candidate from the very beginning,” said Sporting Director Earnie Stewart in a club statement.
“We believe Borek has the quality to make everyone around him better. This deal took time and patience to complete and we are excited to welcome him to Philadelphia.”
Dočkal made 23 appearances and scored four goals for Henan Jianye in 2017. He has also appeared 27 times for the Czech national team since 2012.
