Like many legislatures around the US there are now bills in the Illinois calling for legalizing recreational marijuana. I am torn on this issue: on the one hand I don’t like people getting stoned. (Whenever I walk around downtown Chicago I can’t go two blocks without smelling it. Often coming from cars.) On the other hand, I have a strong libertarian streak and I feel, if it doesn’t hurt anyone else, you can knock yourself out and do what you want to do.
NONE of this is the rationale our legislators down in Springfield are considering. They ONLY see the dollar signs that just might rake in through taxing the heck out of legal weed.
