An early Friday morning house fire displaced an Aurora family, causing an estimated $45,000 worth of damage to their home on the city’s East Side.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Aurora Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jim Rhodes.
One of the home’s residents called the fire in after smoke detectors went off and noticing smoke coming from a wall, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department.
Firefighters responded about 3:12 a.m. Friday to the 1300 block of East Galena Boulevard. They found smoke showing from the roof of the two-story, wood frame, single-family home, according to the news release. Once inside, firefighters saw light smoke throughout the entire building and found fire inside an interior wall.
In about 30 minutes, 22 firefighters put the fire out, with no injuries.
Fire officials said the building was uninhabitable after the fire, and the residents will stay with friends.
Rhodes said it’s unknown how many people live in the home.
