An 11-year-old boy was seriously wounded when someone shot into a home in Chicago’s East Side neighborhood on the Southeast Side Wednesday night, authorities said.

The boy was standing in the home in the 10300 block of South Avenue N when a car drove by and someone inside opened fire around 8:50 p.m., police said.

The boy was taken in serious condition to Comer Children’s Hospital with gunshot wounds to the left arm and chest, according to police. The child was not the intended target, police said.

At the scene, police taped off the street and an area about three houses wide on each side of the street. Some residents stood on a porch nearby, just behind the tape.
