Two people from Chicago were shot Monday night while driving through Berwyn, police said.

About 11:30 p.m., police responded to a call of multiple gunshots near 26th Street and Clarence Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both of Chicago, inside a vehicle. The woman was shot once in the mouth, and the man was shot multiple times, police said.

Paramedics transported the pair to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, and they remained there Tuesday while being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Because the man has gang ties, police believe the shooting was gang-related and that he could have been targeted by a rival gang.

Investigators ask any witnesses, anyone with information regarding the incident or anyone who may have video surveillance of the shooting to contact the Berwyn Police Department Crime Tip Hotline at 708-749-6564.
