Police are looking for witnesses who saw a minivan hit and kill a 46-year-old Aurora man Wednesday evening on the city’s Near East Side.

About 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Danny Anderson, 46, and a 32-year-old Aurora man who knew him were both crossing Broadway Avenue walking westbound in the crosswalk at Hazel Avenue, according to a police department statement and spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

The younger man saw a gray minvan heading southbound on Broadway, stopped in the middle of the crosswalk and yelled to Anderson to stop, police said. But Anderson ran, still going in the same direction, and the minivan struck him, police said. The minvan driver stopped for a few seconds, then drove off southbound, police said.

Aurora paramedics took Anderson to an Aurora hospital, where he was airlifted to another suburban hospital and pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, police said. Police said Anderson is homeless.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Aurora Police Department Traffic Division at 630-256-5330 or Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
