A Lisle man whose car was destroyed after he drove it onto a Metra Station platform and into the path of a freight train was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, authorities said.
About 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Brian J. Edwards drove his car onto the pedestrian platform at the Metra train depot at 1000 Front Street in Lisle, according to news release from the Lisle Police Department.
When Edwards tried to back up, the driver’s side wheels fell off the platform, stranding the car. Security video from the station shows Edwards exited the vehicle and ran around the back toward the platform as a BNSF freight train approached. Edwards was uninjured, but his car was severely damaged along with steps and handrails on the train, according to the release.
Police arrested Edwards at the scene, and he was later charged with DUI, the release stated. He also was cited for trespass to railroad right of way, driving on the sidewalk and driving with expired vehicle registration, police said.
Edwards, 47, of the 4300 block of Arborview Drive in Lisle, was released on an individual recognizance bond, and is expected to appear in court Feb. 28.
