Wilmette police said Thursday that a woman was in custody after a domestic incident sent one woman to the hospital with multiple stab wounds, allegedly at the hands of a female relative.

The wounds were not life threatening, Wilmette Police Chief Kyle Murphy said.

According to police, officers were called to the 1900 block of Highland Avenue shortly after 7 a.m., where they learned the victim, 60, had allegedly been stabbed with a knife by a female relative.

The relative fled, police said, but officers found her nearby in the 2000 block of Washington Avenue.

Police Commander Mike McGarry said the incident is still under investigation.

Wilmette Deputy Police Chief Patrick Collins said Thursday afternoon that the department was waiting to hear from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office about possible charges in the case.
