Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“New sound,” “comfort zone.” When phrases such as those start flying about, you know a world tour is imminent. So it’s no surprise that the Decemberists will be coming to Chicago on April 10 at the Chicago Theatre, on the heels of a new album.

The “Your Girl/Your Ghost” tour echoes the title of the album “I’ll Be Your Girl,” expected in March. And which sound the band settles on will be anyone’s guess. But if the synth-driven new track “Severed” is any indication, Colin Meloy and his cohorts demonstrate that the strange obsession that modern indie acts have with Depeche Mode shows no sign of abating.

“When you’ve been a band for 17 years, inevitably there are habits that you fall into,” says Meloy via press release. “So our ambition this time was really to get out of our comfort zone.” Says every band about every new album everywhere.

“I’ll Be Your Girl” is the follow up to 2015’s “What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday ($39.50-$49.50) via Ticketmaster, via phone at 800-745-3000, or in person at the Chicago Theatre box office. There is a four-ticket limit.
