The Wilmette Plan Commission canceled its scheduled Tuesday hearing on the affordable housing project proposed for 1925 Wilmette Ave. by the Housing Opportunity Development Corporation due to the lack of a quorum, a village official said.
Instead, the case will be heard in February or March, Assistant Village Manager Michael Braiman said.
Braiman said the seven-member commission couldn’t muster a four-person quorum because of several issues, including commissioner illness, family commitments and travel situations. He said he believed that only three members were available for the Jan. 16 meeting.
The HODC wants to construct a 16-unit apartment building on the site of the former American Legion building, according to the village’s website.
Tuesday was to have been the second time the group, which develops and maintains affordable housing in Chicago’s north suburbs, brought a proposal to the village. It first did so in 2015, but pulled its proposal after neighbors objected to the plan, which featured 20 studio and one-bedroom apartments.
Richard Koenig, HODC’s executive director, could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
Information on the project is available at www.wilmette.com.
