The Colorado Rapids have acquired defender Edgar Castillo on loan from Mexican club Monterrey for the 2018 season.
Colorado will have an option to buy after the upcoming season, the club announced Wednesday.
“Edgar is an experienced player that fits the style of soccer we want to play and one that will add a different dimension to our attack,” said Sporting Director and Interim General Manager Padraig Smith in a statement released by the club.
“We believe Edgar will have a positive impact on the field and in the community, and we are very excited to have him represent the Colorado Rapids.”

Castillo, 31, has spent his entire professional career in Liga MX, with stints at Santos Laguna, America, Tigres, Puebla, San Luis, Tijuana, Atlas, and, most recently, Monterrey.
“Coming to Colorado is a wonderful opportunity for me as both a player and a person,” said Castillo,” said Castillo in the statement.
“I want to thank Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, as well as Pádraig and Coach Hudson for bringing me to the Rapids organization, and I can’t wait to get on the field and help this team achieve its goals for 2018 and beyond.”
He has also appeared 18 times for the United States national team, after switching his international allegiance from Mexico in 2009.
