An Aurora woman can be thankful for the bone-chilling temperatures lately after her car landed on top of a frozen pond in the city.

Amanda Brooks, no age provided, was charged with drunken driving early Thursday morning after her vehicle struck a retaining wall after skidding on some black ice, according to Aurora police.

Brooks was traveling northbound on Eola Road, just south of Autumn Grove Circle, when she struck black ice and lost control of her vehicle, police said.

The front end of Brooks’ car struck a retaining wall and then continued into a frozen retention pond. Police said all four of the vehicle’s tires ended up on the pond’s surface.

Brooks refused transportation to the hospital and was charged with drunken driving and driving too fast for conditions, police said.
