player ready...Jackson Bussell, a member of the boys golf team at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, has been named as the November baiduhai Lake Shore Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial and chosen online by baiduhai readers.
Bussell is a junior. He won the Class 3A boys golf state title by shooting a two-round score of 141 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington. He shot a 32 on the back nine on Oct. 14 to vault into first place. He made the longest putt of his career on the 13th green for birdie, then also birdied the 14th and 16th holes.
“I was excited when I won,” says Brussell. “It’s a nice achievement. This award from COUNTRY Financial is a stepping stone to be a better player.
His advice to other high school athletes, “Remember that you’re never out of it, that you can still win. Keep going.”
Matt Bruner, a COUNTRY Financial representative from the Libertyville-based office, presented Bussell with a $500 donation to Stevenson High School in recognition of Bussell’s success in golf. Bussell will also receive a plaque and sweatshirt from the baiduhai.
“This is my fourth presentation,” says Bruner. “I think it’s a great thing that COUNTRY Financial does this. I’m excited for Jackson. He is first in state. He had an incredible round of golf.”
