The Blackhawks placed defenseman Cody Franson on injured reserve Wednesday and recalled defenseman Ville Pokka from Rockford.
Franson missed his second consecutive game Tuesday because of an upper-body injury, and defenseman Jan Rutta left the game in the second period because of an apparent head injury.
Pokka’s addition would ensure the Hawks have seven healthy defensemen for their game against the Jets on Thursday in Winnipeg.
Coach Joel Quenneville called Franson’s injury status “day to day” and said he didn’t anticipate it would be a long-term situation. His placement on IR is retroactive to Saturday, so he could come off in time for Sunday’s game against the Wild.
Franson, 30, has a goal and six assists in 19 games this season.
Pokka, 23, has three goals and nine assists in 26 games for the IceHogs. He has languished in the Hawks system for years without getting a shot to play in an NHL game.
