DC United have acquired French defender Frederic Brillant from New York City FC.

NYCFC will receive $75,000 in General Allocation Money and a 2018 international roster slot in return for the 32-year-old.

“One of our top priorities this offseason was acquiring an experienced central defender and we are very pleased to complete this transfer,” said DC United general manager Dave Kasper in a statement.

“Frederic is a smart, athletic defender who is a very good passer. His size, speed and presence will strengthen our backline next season and we are excited to welcome him to D.C.”

Brillant played two seasons with NYCFC, making 54 appearances and socring two goals between 2016 and 2017.
