Atlanta United have signed Argentinian defender Franco Escobar from local side Newell’s Old Boys.
Escobar, 22, inked a three-year deal, joining former Newell’s manager Gerardo Martino. The club did not disclose the terms of the deal.
“Franco is a physical and versatile defender, capable of playing anywhere along the backline,” said Atlanta United vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra in a statement released by the team.
“He’s a young player who has already featured often in the Argentina Primera Division and he brings a level of toughness that will suit MLS and benefit our club immediately.”
Escobar made 12 starts for Newell’s during the 2016-2017 Argentinian Primera Division season, featuring both at centre and right back.
