Metra trains are operating on their normal schedule at the Wheaton train station after a fire damaged the building Wednesday night, according to the Wheaton Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday to an automatic fire alarm at the station at 402 W. Front St.
The fire was found to be in a furnace room, fire officials said. The building was unoccupied, and there were no injuries.
The cause was determined to be accidental and related to a malfunctioning heater.
An alert from Metra said the station’s ticket office and shelter were damaged. While Union Pacific-West Line trains will be running normally, the ticket office will be closed until further notice.
