Matt Schawel, a member of the boys golf team at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, has been named as the October baiduhai Lake Shore Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial and chosen online by baiduhai readers.
Schawel is a senior from Vernon Hills. His best golf outing was at the North Suburban Conference meet on Sept. 26 at Willow Glen Golf Club in North Chicago. Schawel fired a 1-over 72 to tie with Lake Forest senior Scott Frevert for the tournament’s low round. Schawel then beat Frevert in the first playoff hole to be named the NSC meet medalist. He says it’s a lifelong privilege to be a Patriot.
“It’s a privilege to be recognized by COUNTRY Financial,” Schawel says. “My teammates and my coaches all pushed me to be better. This award represents the hard work and competitive nature of our team. I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates.”
John Rueth, the Patriot’s varsity golf coach, praised Schawel’s efforts. “Matt is unbelievable,” Rueth says. “He’s loyal, dedicated, compassionate and cares about the whole group as a team. He’s very dedicated and very driven.”
