Will County sheriff’s police are investigating a carjacking that occurred in New Lenox Township after a man posted a car for sale online.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, told authorities he had posted an ad for his girlfriend’s 2014 Kia Optima on several websites and was contacted by a woman who set up a time to meet. She said she would send a man to meet at the victim’s house at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

At that time, three men arrived at the man’s home in a white, late-model Dodge Challenger with white stripes, police reported. Two of the men were described as approximately 20 years old, tall with thin builds, wearing jeans and hooded sweatshirts. All three were African-American, sheriff’s police said.

After the victim and three men took a test drive, the group returned to the victim’s home. The purported buyers asked the man to accompany them to a bank to make a wire transfer for the car. While in the area of West Woodlawn Road and South Pine Street, the man driving the car stopped and ordered the victim to empty his pockets while another man in the back seat pointed a gun at his head, police said.

Then the seller was told to get out of the Optima, and the car sped off, the sheriff’s office reported.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 815-727-8575.
