Undisclosed Kane County police agencies will conduct no-refusal DUI stops again the day before Thanksgiving, State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said Tuesday.

The Nov. 22 operation will be the fifth time the county has chosen the day preceding Thanksgiving for no-refusal stops since it started doing them more than nine years ago, McMahon said during a monthly news briefing in St. Charles. They’ve kept selecting that Wednesday because of feedback from both community members and law enforcement partners, he said.

“That tends to be a night when there is a lot of drinking and driving, unfortunately,” McMahon said.

Consistent with past practice, McMahon said officials aren’t going to identify the exact jurisdictions, but that “multiple” law enforcement agencies from the county will participate.

This month’s will be the second no-refusal day the county has done this year — the first was July 4 — and the 22nd ever so far, McMahon said. During past events, a combined total of 138 drivers have been charged with driving under the influence, including 30 charged over the four previous day-before-Thanksgiving operations, McMahon said.
