Dolphins’ Kiko Alonso fined for last week’s hit on Joe Flacco

Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso was fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness for the helmet hit that knocked Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco out of last week’s 40-0 loss to Baltimore.

Flacco left the game with a concussion and didn’t return, but he is expected to play this week against the Tennessee Titans.

Alonso, the Dolphins’ starting weakside linebacker, said repeatedly after the game that it was a “bang-bang” play and he didn’t have time to react or alter his trajectory because Flacco’s slide came late.

Alonso’s shoulder hit Flacco’s helmet, which was knocked off by the hit.

Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was not fined for grabbing Ravens backup quarterback Ryan Mallett by the throat following their exchange of words, which came after Suh pushed Mallet after committing a false start.

Also not fined was defensive end William Hayes, who was caught on video poking his finger inside Ravens right tackle Austin Howard’s face mask on the same play as Suh and Mallett’s exchange.
