A person is in Illinois State Police protective custody after threatening to blow up a Chicago-bound charter bus traveling in Grundy County, officials said Thursday.

Police did not release the name, age or gender of the person, who they say is in protective custody and was evaluated at a hospital shortly after the incident about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The charter bus was traveling east on Interstate 80 near Ridge Road in Minooka when it was pulled over after a passenger threatened to blow up the bus and police were notified, police said.

Officers searched the bus and determined there were no weapons or explosive devices, police said. After the passenger was taken into custody, the bus continued to its destination.

Police continue to investigate, and no further details were available.
