Timothy B. Fay, 28, sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder that appears self-inflicted, said St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Dave Kintz.
Fay, of the 4500 block of Camden Lane, Yorkville, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm into a building from outside, a Class X felony; reckless discharge of a firearm, a class 4 felony; and disorderly conduct involving a false crime report, a class 4 felony.
Police have not been able to access or interview him as he remains hospitalized, Kintz said.
A warrant on the charges was issued Monday, and police will arrange to take him into custody when he’s released from the hospital, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.
Kintz said no St. Charles police officers are assigned to guard Fay at the hospital and they don’t believe he is a flight risk.
While investigating the Oct. 26 report of a burglary on the 3600 block of Grand View Court, St. Charles police found a bullet fired from within the home Fay allegedly called police from had struck a neighbor’s house, going through the back door and striking a wall inside the neighbor’s house, according to the news release.
Police said they found “numerous” spent casings of different calibers throughout the house the call came from, along with bullet holes in the walls, furniture and an overhead garage door.
Police said they determined Fay himself broke the glass in the back door and that there was no armed intruder.
