A Family Halloween at Historic Wagner Farm offered a family-friendly event Oct. 29 that encouraged kids, horses and cows to all come in costume.

Sarah Schoeneberg, program manager, said that while Historic Wagner Farm has always celebrated the harvest season by selling pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks, this was the first year for the event.

“Over the years we were asked so often about hosting a Halloween program, and there was such a demand for it that finally we decided to join in the festivities,” Schoeneberg said.

Organizers say that 400 tickets were sold in advance.

Wagner Historic Farm featured a haunted barn, witches in the farmhouse, candy wagon rides, pumpkin games, a bug house and special access to costumed cows and horses.

According to Schoeneberg, the event was created in partnership with the North Shore Special Education District.

“This is just a great opportunity to get families out on the farm to meet the horses for a fun-filled Halloween event,” said Sheridan Turner, a Wagner Farm teamster and director of the Kohl Children’s Museum.

Katie Jones of Glenview attended with her family and lives within walking distance of the farm.

“Now that our daughter . . . turned two, this is the first year that we are able to attend Halloween events as she begins to understand what the holiday is all about,” Jones said.
