The Glenbrook North doubles team of senior Catherine O’Regan and sophomore Samantha Frishman earned a medal by finishing sixth at the Class AA girls tennis state tournament.

For Frishman, it came just over a year after she had surgery on her left knee to repair a torn ACL and meniscus.

O’Regan, meanwhile, became the first Glenbrook North girls tennis player ever to reach the third day of the state tournament in four straight seasons. Playing alongside her sister Colette, who graduated in 2017, O’Regan finished second in doubles in 2016, third in 2015 and seventh in 2014.

“This is a phenomenal way for Catherine to finish her four-year career,” Glenbrook North coach Peg Holecek said. “(Reaching Day 3 of state all four years) is a real accomplishment, and we’ve had some quality kids come through the girls program.”

Added Holecek: “I’m excited for (Frishman’s) future. She’s got two more years and I look forward to her leadership and just the kind of dedication she showed this year, which has been amazing.”
