The Cubs claimed outfielder Jacob Hannemann off waivers from the Mariners on Thursday and designated for assignment shortstop Mike Freeman.
Hannemann was picked by the Cubs in the third round of the 2013 draft but was claimed off waivers by the Mariners in early September.
He had three hits in 20 at-bats in 11 games with Seattle this season and batted .240 with six home runs and 29 stolen bases in 114 minor-league games in the Cubs’ organization.
Freeman had four hits in 25 at-bats in 15 games with the Cubs this year.
