The Burr Ridge Village Board voted 6-0 Monday to move forward with a proposal limiting hours when construction or landscaping work can be done on Sundays and holidays, responding to noise complaints from residents.

The plan would only allow construction and landscaping work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Village staff had proposed a noon limit originally. Snow removal equipment would be exempt from these changes.

“I tried to sit outside on my deck on a early Sunday morning and there was so much noise I couldn’t enjoy myself,” resident Gerry Sweeney told the board.

But resident Alice Krampits and Mark Thoma cited concerns about having enough time to get yard work done on Sunday, because they work during the week and sometimes on Saturday. Krampits expressed concern about getting a citation for not having her grass cut if she is unable to do it with the new limitations.

Evan Walter, assistant to the village administrator, said there have been numerous noise complaints from residents, which prompted a survey of laws Hinsdale, Western Spring, La Grange and Oak Brook. He determined Burr Ridge has the most lenient hours for equipment operation on Sundays and holidays.

The village will revisit the issue and make a final decision at its meeting at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Village Hall, 7660 County Line Road. A copy of the proposed ordinance will be available online at www.burr-ridge.gov.

Walter said residents with an opinion on the issue could contact him at [email protected]

or at 630-654-8181, Ext. 2010.

“I will also meet with any residents in person to discuss this issue and we hope that residents will bring any questions or concerns to our next board meeting,” he said.
